Sometimes, the best way to innovate is not by looking forward, but by returning to the origins. This is precisely what Godeval Revival proposes: to harness the immense potential of one of the winery's most iconic plots to demonstrate that godello still has much to reveal.
Everything begins in Pancho, one of Godeval's oldest vineyards. Nestled on a sun-drenched slope of the Sil Valley, this small site boasts exceptional conditions: south-facing orientation, a microclimate that favours a gradual ripening, and a unique slate soil that imparts character and depth to the variety. From this plot, only 6,600 bottles are produced, a limited edition that encapsulates the essence of this corner of Valdeorras.
Since the late seventies, Godeval has been one of the wineries instrumental in the revival and prestige of the godello variety in the DO Valdeorras. Always committed to research and vineyard expertise, the winery has transformed innovation into a tool to better express the terroir, while never losing respect for its roots. Godeval Revival is a prime example of this philosophy: a wine born from a historic vineyard, demonstrating that tradition and innovation can indeed coexist.
The grapes for Godeval Revival are exclusively selected from the Pancho plot and undergo a process of cryomaceration, a technique that involves keeping the grapes at very low temperatures before fermentation to enhance the extraction of aromatic compounds. Far from being a spontaneous decision, this process is the culmination of three years of research conducted in collaboration with the Estación de Viticultura y Enología de Galicia (EVEGA), aiming to showcase the most intense and elegant expression of godello. The result is a white wine that retains all the freshness of the variety, while gaining complexity, aromatic intensity, and depth on the palate.
Only 6,600 bottles of this Godeval Revival exist. Yet, what truly sets it apart is not its quantity, but the story it holds within. Discover how a century-old vineyard, research, and a passion for godello can give rise to one of the most thrilling interpretations of the DO Valdeorras.
